Overview
Lucid Athlete is committed to supporting performance-driven endurance athletes in their training and recovery journey. Given the initial alpha release's limited functionality, their current project focuses on refining and assessing the Figma prototype for the Lucid Athlete iOS mobile app. They approached us to suggest future features aimed at enhancing the app's appeal to their primary users. In response, we've developed new feature concepts to explore the app's potential, offering concise, professional feature descriptions along with their rationale.
Client: Lucid Athlete
Role: UX/UI designer
Methods: Competitive Audit, Stakeholder Interview, Tech Scoping, User Journey Maps, Kano Analysis
Tools: Figma, Keynote, pen and paper
Primary Users:
Millennial Endurance Athletes striving for peak fitness, balancing training with family and health concerns, and participating in amateur competitions or chasing Strava records.
Secondary Users:
Master Blasters Dedicated athletes (triathlon, cycling, running, skiing) invest resources to optimize their training and performance, aiming to excel in their age group, whether in competitions or on Strava, while prioritizing fitness and longevity.
User Journey Map
I constructed a user journey from the primary user's standpoint to visually capture the insights I gathered during the client kick-off meeting regarding their interactions with the product. This process led to valuable insights and hypotheses for enhancing the app's user experience.
Process
This project commenced with stakeholder interviews aimed at identifying Lucid Athlete's goals and uncovering opportunities for designing new features. The primary focus is on enhancing the dashboard by addressing critical questions such as:
What functionalities and information should users have access to?
What external integrations (e.g., push notifications, Apple Watch app, iOS widgets) would offer the most value to users?
To determine the most valuable features, we employed a user-centric approach. We designed these features and presented them to the app's primary users for feedback and evaluation. Their input was crucial, as we let them vote on the features and conducted in-depth analysis to pinpoint the most desirable ones.

The Significance
This project is dedicated to refining the Lucid Athlete iOS app for endurance athletes. Our primary motivation is to provide athletes with an improved and tailor-made user experience, catering to their specific needs. By doing so, we contribute to Lucid Athlete's overarching mission of enhancing the performance of endurance athletes.
What I Learned
Throughout this project, I acquired new research methodologies, such as Kano analysis, which initially presented a steep learning curve. However, through perseverance and experimentation, I successfully grasped this concept and uncovered its potential applications for enhancing my project.
The development of user journeys proved instrumental in shedding light on user pain points and gaining valuable insights into their perspective and product usage. Additionally, I conducted a competitive audit for the first time, and this process effectively showcased the comparative analysis of various products, ultimately contributing to the achievement of my project's objectives.
